Sustainable Halloween

Speaking of the Share Shop… with Halloween  just a few days away, the Share Shop is the perfect place to start your costume search.  Before you rush off to buy one from the store, with just a little creativity and a trip to the Share Shop you’ll have the perfect costume. Consider these creative up-cycled options as inspiration for having a more sustainable Halloween this year!

Scarecrow Costume

There’s a good chance you already have most of the tools to make this one, all you need is an old pair of jeans, a flannel t-shirt, a floppy straw hat, and orange and black face paint and you’ll be ready to stand in a field!69fe1b7107c1086c14189d0ff0bd1e02

Make Your Own Skeleton T-Shirt

All you need for this one is a white or black t-shirt, a pair of scissors and a little bit of time and before you know it you’ll be a spooky skeleton!

Upcycled Box Costumes

In addition to the resources in the Share Shop, there is a collection of old boxes and shipping supplies in the mailroom that are free for anyone to use There are countless costumes you can make using a simple cardboard box! Check out all these fun possibilities-

String a few packing peanuts together and you have popcorn!

Spaghetti and Meatballs

If you have a red shirt, beige or yellow yarn, brown pom-poms and some tin foil, you are ready to be spaghetti!

Cactus Costume

If you have an old green sweater, or dress, laying around and some pipe cleaners, you can easily make yourself into a cactus! All you need to do is thread pieces of pipe cleaner in and out of random places in the sweater, and before you know it you’re a beautiful desert succulent!

These are just a few options for homemade, upcycled costumes to make this Halloween but there are so many more! If you find some old clothes or odds and ends around the house, think outside the box to make a unique costume all your own!
